Rapperswil is a municipality in the Seeland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. It lies 13 km (8.1 mi) north of the capital Bern

Rapperswil has an area of 18.2 km2 (7.0 sq mi). Of this area, 62.9% is used for agricultural purposes, while 28.7% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 8.2% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.1%) is non-productive (rivers or glaciers).[3] It lies on the Swiss Plateau and stretches between the valleys of the Limpach in the north and the Lyss in the south.
Rapperswil has a population (as of 31 December 2010) of 2,111.[1] As of 2007[update], 4.0% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 6.2%. Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (95.4%), with French being second most common ( 1.4%) and Albanian being third ( 0.7%).
In the 2007 election the most popular party was SVP which received 45.9% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS (18.8%), the FDP (11.9%) and the Green Party (10.2%).
The age distribution of the population (as of 2000[update]) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 25.2% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 59.7% and the seniors (over 64 years old) make up 15.1%. In Rapperswil (BE) about 80.6% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).
Rapperswil (BE) has an unemployment rate of 0.63%. As of 2005[update], there were 192 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 68 businesses involved in this sector. 247 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 26 businesses in this sector. 260 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 61 businesses in this sector.[3]
